Death Note

Death Note is the one and only manga/anime that I follow. It has a great plot and the questions it raises are very intriguing and nice to think about. In saying so, I'm not one of those who favors one over the other BUT I have to warn you guys: I. Like. Slash. Also, this fandom seems to have some of the most beautifully written pieces.

Notes: There's no romance as far as I know (there are only 2 chapters up so far) but it says there's to be an L/Light friendship and mentions Mello and Near. So far, it's pretty good and I really hated it when it ended but I'm sure Evandar will have more coming soon. It's rather similar to a Harry Potter fanfiction I've read before, but with a much more Death Note feel to it, so it's original in it's own way.

Light Yagami hated everything, indulged in everything, and loved nothing and no one but himself. L loved everything, could afford to indulge in nothing, not even a real name, and was determined to show the boy how beautiful life could be.

Notes: This merits being under the "horror" category and is very dark. I mean, I found myself being sorry for L a good amount of the time. Either way, it's very well written and I love it. Unfortunately, it's WIP at 9 chapters (37,815 words).

Everything became clear to Light after death, now he needs to pay for his mistakes but will he receive forgiveness from the one person he wants it the most?

Notes: Intriguing look into the next life to see if "L" will ever forgive "Raito." It's a cute romance with angst and though it's short (10 chapters; 57,881 words), it's completed.

Raito is brutally assaulted and decides to end it all –and what better way then to admit he’s Kira and let his nemesis do it for him? Of course, things with L can never be so simple.

Once is Once by Keyhala
In the year 2010, Kira’s will has almost become the law. Raito has no more competition as the chief inspector of the NPA. Even if the role of ‘L’ was relinquished a year earlier, at the same time as Near and Mello got wiped from history, he has no problem, since he holds the entire police force of Japan, as well as well as the role of the worlds ‘saviour’, Kira. There are slight complications with the now upcoming discussions about disbanding the police, but he doesn’t see it as a long-term problem.
Everything seems to be going fine, up until Friday the thirteenth of August, when something pretty unpredictable happens. One of the newly dead criminals, who got killed by Kira’s judgement, suddenly reawakens on the hospital, three hours after her death. Shocked at this information, Raito decides to get information from the woman. But she has no memories of her life whatsoever, only her name, age and a cryptic phrase; “Once is once – but everyone gains a second chance.”
Deciding to go home to think the entire situation over, he finds another shocking surprise waiting. For if a woman who has been dead can reawaken… then why couldn’t also someone else?

Notes: Even though it's still WIP and only at 13 chapters (123,063 words) at that, the chapters were pretty long so it still took a good amount of time. The way the author let us delve into Raito's thoughts made it that much better. Love it! And no, this is not ONLY because of the fact that I have a thing for yakuza-themed things. :)

The Prince of Death by K. Kotone
He thrived in a realm where decay and sloth ruled. He became something much more terrifying and refined. Yagami Light became a Prince among the Shinigami and what’s more…he’s given the gift to live again.

Notes: This is pretty interesting. It's one of those plots on Raito after he died - except he came back as a mortal shinigami to the time line at the beginning of Death Note. Again. It's WIP (10 chapters; 37,748 words).

Notes: Another fic focusing on Raito being rather smart and his journey growing up. Of course, with his incredibly logical mind, he's particularly rather detached from his emotions... It's pretty endearing. It's WIP (5 chapters; 32,669 words).

Raito dies and becomes nothing. But the Shinigami need his soul, so they give him a second chance. They recreate his spirit and send him to a hellish trial where he must face his living nightmares. Intense romance comes late in fic.

Notes: This is a beautifully written piece - even scarily so. When the summary says "hellish trial," it means "hellish trial." Either way, I love this fic. It's WIP at 15 chapters (290,687 words).
